Notes
Dustin Johnson won the TOUR Championship, his second win of the FedExCup Playoffs and third of the season, clinching the FedExCup title for the first time in his career. It marked Johnson’s 23rd career win on the PGA TOUR.
The win was Dustin Johnson’s sixth during the FedExCup Playoffs and first at the TOUR Championship. He qualified for the event for the 12th consecutive season, becoming the only player to finish in the top 30 in the FedExCup standings more than 10 times during the first 14 seasons of the FedExCup era.
Dustin Johnson became the first player who entered the TOUR Championship No. 1 in the FedExCup standings to win the FedExCup title since Tiger Woods in 2009.
Holding a five-stroke lead after 54 holes, Dustin Johnson became the first player since Tiger Woods in 1999 to hold the 54-hole lead/co-lead in four consecutive starts on TOUR (PGA Championship, THE NORTHERN TRUST, BMW Championship, TOUR Championship).
With 2020 being the second year of FedExCup Starting Strokes based on positions in the FedExCup standings, Dustin Johnson entered the event in the lead with a score of 10-under. Jon Rahm started at 8-under, Justin Thomas at 7-under, Webb Simpson at 6-under and Collin Morikawa at 5-under. Players 6-10 in the FedExCup standings began at 4-under, 11-15 at 3-under, 16-20 at 2-under, 21-25 at 1-under and 26-30 at even par.
Xander Schauffele recorded four scores of 67 or better to tie Justin Thomas for second. Schauffele began the event tied for 11th at 3-under, seven strokes back of leader Dustin Johnson, and recorded the lowest 72-hole score (265). It marked his second consecutive runner-up at the event and third top-two result, including his win in 2017.
Justin Thomas, who started the event at 8-under, finished T2 with Xander Schauffele. The runner-up marked Thomas’ fifth top-10 and third top-three result in five starts at the event.
2019 champion Rory McIlroy finished in a tie for eighth with Patrick Reed and Sebastian Munoz, earning his first top-10 since the suspension of the season due to COVID-19.
