Rory McIlroy won the TOUR Championship by four shots over Xander Schauffele, claiming his second FedExCup title and 17th career PGA TOUR victory. The win came in McIlroy's 168th start at the age of 30 years, 3 months, 21 days.

Rory McIlroy became the second player with multiple FedExCup titles, joining Tiger Woods, and the first player to win THE PLAYERS Championship and the FedExCup in the same season.

Rory McIlroy earned his fifth career win in the FedExCup Playoffs, becoming the first player to reach that mark in PGA TOUR history.

The win was the third of the season for Rory McIlroy, who previously won THE PLAYERS Championship and the RBC Canadian Open.

With the inception of FedExCup Starting Strokes based on positions in the FedExCup standings, Justin Thomas entered the event in the lead with a score of 10-under. Patrick Cantlay started at 8-under, Brooks Koepka at 7-under, Patrick Reed at 6-under and Rory McIlroy at 5-under. Players 6-10 in the FedExCup standings began at 4-under, 11-15 at 3-under, 16-20 at 2-under, 21-25 at 1-under and 26-30 at even par.

Xander Schauffele shot an opening-round 64 en route to a solo-second, his third top-10 in his third start at the event dating to his victorious debut in 2017. Schauffele made a hole-in-one at the par-3 ninth in the third round, the first ace of his PGA TOUR career and fifth in tournament history.

Brooks Koepka finished T3, his second top-10 at the event and third of his career in the FedExCup Playoffs. Koepka played in the final group in the final round with Rory McIlroy, closing with a 2-over 72. He the field in Driving Distance (321.1 yards).

After entering the event with the lead at 10-under, Justin Thomas tied Brooks Koepka for third, his fourth top-10 in four starts at East Lake Golf Club. Thomas led the field in Scrambling (73.08%).

2018 champion Tiger Woods was unable to defend his title as he did not qualify for the TOUR Championship. Woods finished the season No. 42 in the FedExCup standings.
