After losing the Championship Match a year earlier to Bubba Watson, Kevin Kisner defeated Matt Kuchar, 3 and 2, in the final match at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play for his first career World Golf Championships title and third PGA TOUR victory in his 196th start at the age of 35 years, 1 month, 16 days. As the fifth player to play in the Championship Match in back-to-back years, became the first runner-up to win the following season. In the opening match, Kevin Kisner lost to Ian Poulter, 2-up, becoming the first player in tournament history to lose his opening match and go on to win the title.

Playing in the Championship Match for the second time in his career, 2013 winner Matt Kuchar finished runner-up as be sought to become the first player in his 40s to win the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Italy's Francesco Molinari defeated Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard in the Consolation Match, 4 and 2, to finish alone in third place. At No. 7, Molinari was the highest seed to advance to the Quarterfinals.

In his eighth career PGA TOUR start, Lucas Bjerregaard gained worldwide attention for eliminating Tiger Woods in the Quarterfinals, 1-up.

Tiger Woods made his first start in the event since 2013, competing in the state of Texas for the first time since 2005. The three-time winner of the Dell Technologies Match Play advanced to the Quarterfinals for the first time since 2008, his most recent victory in the event.

Going head-to-head for the first time in match play on the PGA TOUR, Tiger Woods eliminated Rory McIlroy with a 2-and-1 victory in the Quarterfinals.

Of the top 16 seeds, five players advanced to the Round of 16: Justin Rose (2), Rory McIlroy (4), Francesco Molinari (7), Paul Casey (10) and Tiger Woods (13).

Five players went undefeated in Group Play matches: Branden Grace, Marc Leishman, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari and Henrik Stenson.

For the third consecutive year, and fourth time in the last five years, the defending champion failed to advance out of Group Play.
