Wells Fargo Championship - Finished T2 in his tournament debut at the Wells Fargo Championship, his second career runner-up on the PGA TOUR. Led the field in Scrambling (85.19 percent). PGA Championship - Played in the final pairing during the final round of the PGA Championship and carded a 73 to finish T5, his first career top-five in a major championship. Co-led the field in Par-3 Scoring Average (2.88). U.S. Open - Won the U.S. Open by one stroke over Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris, earning his first major championship title and first career win on the PGA TOUR. Entering the week, was the second-highest ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking without a win on the PGA TOUR (behind Zalatoris). Became the first player to earn his first TOUR win in a major championship since Danny Willett at the 2016 Masters Tournament and first to do so at the U.S. Open since Graeme McDowell in 2010. Also won the 2013 U.S. Amateur at The Country Club, becoming the 13th player to win the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open and second to do so at the same course (Jack Nicklaus, Pebble Beach Golf Links). Moved to No. 10 in the FedExCup standings and Official World Golf Ranking with the win, cracking the top 10 in each for the first time in his career.

- Played one season for Northwestern University outside Chicago before leaving school to turn professional.
- When he won the 2013 U.S. Amateur, he became the first English winner of the U.S. Amateur since Harold Hilton in 1911.
- With a T44 finish at the 2013 Open Championship and a T48 finish at the 2014 U.S. Open, became the first amateur since Bobby Jones in 1930 to hold low amateur titles at The Open Championship and U.S. Open at the same time.
